Jobs I Lost to COVID-19
The pandemic is effecting us all in a myriad of different ways, but I am watching my career disappear and the work of my friends and fellow artists disappear. Theatre will probably be one of the last jobs to come back - and for a bunch of companies who already were functioning off small budgets, we don't know what that means. I don't anticipate being able to make my full living in the arts like I was and have been for the majority of my adult life. This hurts my soul. I don't know what this means for the arts in general. I don't know what it means for myself, my friends, my colleagues, or really anyone I know. I do know theatre won't disappear. It's been around since the dawn of time. Storytelling is essential to humanity and that is really all theatre is in it's core. Theatre will continue. It will not die... But for those of us in theatre - the future is more uncertain. I have been sad and afraid... and I mourn the loss of the jobs that I was excited for, for the career I have built, but more importantly the career that is my passion and my true love.
For the sake of artists and others who have lost their livelihoods - please wear a mask, practice social distancing, and take care of each other. Times are tough and we all need community support.
I need to put this somewhere because I was so excited. I had a year planned of new projects, of taking big steps in my career, of working with people I've always wanted to work with, and this was just the beginning. So here it is... this was going to be my 2020 before the pandemic cost us our jobs and others' their lives.
